Mercedes Vito is a van from the manufacturer that has achieved quite a bit of popularity. However, it still runs into some issues, which is why we’ll cover Mercedes Vito van problems.
Mercedes Vito van
Vans are generally used for larger transport so their general comfort and space are important. Mercedes Vito delivers on it exceptionally.
Mercedes Vito is a mid-sized light commercial vehicle produced by Mercedes. The vehicle was available as a panel van, chassis cab, or an MPV. These come with different appearances and sizes though still staying within its given classification. Mercedes Vito is meant to provide transport for up to eight passengers, making it great for smaller groups.
Mercedes Vito was first produced in 96 and has had multiple changes since. Though the three distinct series followed the 1996 one, we will focus on those belonging to the last series and the latest generation. The third generation started in 2014 while the last series began production in 2016 and is still going strong.
This generation of Mercedes Vito vans was launched as a full-size MPV to fill the spot on the market. The van went from 5 to 4 door design but still maintained its capacity. The panel van variant was also released in 2014, receiving Attention Assist and Crosswind Assist as measures to increase the car’s control. Intelligent Light Systems are also available for this variant although they are optional.
The powertrain of the Mercedes Vito comes in diesel, petrol, and even electric variants. The diesel line includes 1.6 L, 1.7 L, 2.0 L, and 2.2 L options while the petrol engine is only available in 2.0 L.
The electric powertrain option for the Mercedes Vito came out in 2020 and utilizes EQW 300, a permanent synchronous magnet electric motor. The battery of the motor is a 90 kWh water-cooled Li-Ion battery which allows the car to move at 99 mph max speed. With its battery lasting a long while.
Mercedes Vito was a decently received car scoring 7 out of 10 as its cumulative score. It does everything it needs to but doesn’t have anything exceptional to it. Though it is still a popular van choice.
Mercedes Vito Van Problems
Common issues of the Mercedes Vito Van include fuel leaks, wiring harness, dodgy injector, and faulty airbags.
- Faulty airbags
Airbags are the primary source of safety in the case of a heavy collision. Airbags are made in a way where they aim to maintain the safest form and functionality while still fulfilling their function. An improperly installed airbag could become a hazard during a crash rather than an asset, risking injuries.
Mercedes Vito van has had some reports stating the airbags of the car have malfunctioned. This is a problem that should be immediately resolved if possible. Even the most careful drivers can encounter troublesome car crashes where a functional airbag can help avoid a lot of potential injuries.
- Fuel leaks
No matter whether you drive petrol or diesel cars, fuel is the key source of energy that makes them work. Each car utilizing an internal combustion engine uses fuel for the sake of moving the vehicle and powering some of its components. However, fuel is not meant to reach most of our car’s components.
When it does, it becomes a fire hazard and a harmful factor to other components. Mercedes Vito has issues with fuel leaking out so inspecting the tank consistently is a prerequisite to a healthier, safer ride.
- Wiring harness
Wiring in vehicles gets quite complex. Even the smallest of cars have dozens of wires wrapping throughout the components to ensure complete functionality. To help keep them safe and organized, wires are put into wiring harnesses. A wiring harness in a car is especially useful for preventing accidental entangling of cables into components.
Mercedes Vito has seen some issues with this particular component. Making the general safety of its drive much poorer. A wiring harness can be one of the first components to wear out, failing to contain all the wires found within, allowing some of them to let loose and potentially get damaged.
- Dodgy Injector
Tying back to fuel issues, we have a faulty fuel injector as yet another common problem of the Mercedes Vito van. The problems with this component result in the engine generating far less power and spending more fuel when driving.
Fuel injectors can become faulty. Making the car generate less power and have less fuel efficiency than the standard motor. This will reflect on our overall fuel consumption while also accelerating issues with the combustion engine. Cars prefer to operate consistently, which is why paying attention to this issue is important.
Solutions to Mercedes Vito van problems
Thankfully, these issues aren’t unsolvable. In fact, a good number of them have rather straightforward solutions attached to them. Certain issues can even be solved at home, which makes them far easier to implement without having to dedicate extra time or money to a visit to the mechanic’s shop.
If the solutions provided above do not work, check your warranty and Mercedes Vito recall information. In situations where the warranty hasn’t expired yet, there’s a possibility your specific problem is covered under it.
Recalls serve a similar purpose, if a recall was issued for a car for a specific issue it’s likely that recall is still viable.
